Taken Nov 1942 to Aug 1943 Asansol or Feni
Left to Right:    Sgt Alec Hulme Obs,  Sgt Bill Kitchen - Pilot,  Sgt Ken Simpson WOp/Ag

On 25/05/1942 Sgt Kitchen piloting Blenheim L7965 had a tire burst on takeoff at Asansol causing the aircraft to crash and catch fire. Sgt Bill Kitchen Pilot, Sgt Alec Hulme Obs, severely burned, Sgt Ken Simpson WOp/Ag concussed. Sgt Kitchen had this accident in May but Sgt Jack Barnes who owns this photo did not arrive on the squadron untill Nov 1942 so either this crew is identified incorrectly or Sgt Kitchen was not seriously hurt. Note that this photo and the one below were taken the same day in the identical location.

Patharkandi May 1944
The boys enjoy some R&R at a swimming pool on a tea Plantation near Patharkandi.
Stanley calls it a pool but sure looks like a good old fashioned farm pond to me.

Patharkandi 1944
F/Lt Chilton at gun point desparately explaining that it wasn't him who put the scorpion in Georges boot.
(actually this is Stanley Chilton & George Forstad horsing around, he didn't say if the guns were loaded and probablly best we don't know anyway. Whatever they were doing it is fairly obvious that Stanley lost)

L-R  Sgt Tom Barry  (RAAF), Major Viney (SAAF),   Sgt J Wholers  (RAAF)
Taken late 1942 early 1943  Feni or Asansol
Lt Viney must have been an excellent pilot with a lot of luck as he survived on the
Squadron a long time rising through the ranks untill finally becoming C.O.
Everyone speaks highly of him.

NOTE: W/O Barnes thought the chap on left was Sgt. Keith Dumas, but Sgt Barry's daughter
Helen Raneburg has positively confirmed this is her father. This then confirms these three as
regular crew, as was indicated by Sgt Chapman. WAY TO GO HELEN !!

Building behind is Cooks Rest House, Deir el Bahri (Al-Dair al-Bahri)
Very likely they were all on leave. Almost certainly taken early to mid 1941. Possibly they represent three crews Observers front row, gunners rear left and pilots on right.
Bottom left is Sgt (W/O) Tom Barry - Obs, 2nd left Sgt Keith Dumas - Observer
(possibly the pilot 3rd from right, back row is Lt Hookey Russel - note the shoulder epaulets)
SOURCE: Helen Raneburg, daughter of Tom Barry

Unknown where or when this was taken but likely Egypt 1941. Left to right
BACK ROW: Cullen (Aus)...Campbell (Can)...Calder (Eng)...Lorne Tapp, pilot (Can)
FRONT ROW:  Bush Barry, Obs (Aus).... Tich (Eng)
SOURCE: Roger Cannon, son of F/L Geoffrey D. Cannon
