Mosquito (Mossy) 84 Squadron
Waterclour, Size 20x16ins Circa 1997 DH98 Mosquito FBVI 84 Squadron
Commisioned by the pilot of this aircraft in far east, 84 squadron. He also flew Spitfire's in Battle of Britain, and I believe P40s in middle east. His name W J Rutledge and his rank was Lieut/ Colonel of the Royal Artillery. He volunteered for flying in 1940 when RAF was scraping the bottom of the barrel for pilots, which would indicate he had a p/licence or training prior to the war. He stayed with the RAF for the duration ending up a Squadron Leader. Nobody knew his home but he did talk about fighting the IRA in his younger days. I knew him as Bill at the Winchester RAFA branch and at that time he was about 80. The painting was given to him, but he insisted giving £100 to the RAFA. funds. Sadly he died 1year after recieving the painting. The whereabouts of the painting today is unknown.
